Claudia Tenney's bid to return to Congress now has President Donald Trump's backing.

The president tweeted his endorsement of Tenney late Wednesday afternoon.

Tenney is one of three candidates seeking the Republican nomination in New York's 22nd Congressional District. She's facing George Phillips and Franklin Sager in the June 23 primary.

In his tweet, Trump described Tenney as a "fantastic candidate." He wrote "Claudia has my Complete and Total Endorsement!"

Trump supported Tenney in her 2018 reelection campaign when she was being challenged by Democrat Anthony Brindisi. The president appeared at a Utica fundraising event for Tenney.

During a live interview on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program a few hours before the Trump tweet, Tenney expressed her support for the president. In response to a question, Tenney indicated she would like Trump to campaign in Binghamton this year.
