President Trump Impeached by U.S. House Majority
After a day full of debate, the United States House of Representatives has voted to impeach President Donald Trump.
President Trump is now the third president in US history to be impeached.
The House voted to impeach the president on two charges: Abuse of power for pressuring Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 elections, and obstruction of Congress.
The vote was mostly along party lines. From here, the case will go to a Senate trial, which at this point would likely acquit the president, as the Republican hold the majority there.
Two other presidents in American history have been impeached: Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Both of them were acquitted in the Senate trial.
Rep. Anthony Brindisi (D), who represents New York's 22nd Congressional District voted for impeachment.
President Trump held a rally in Battle Creek, Michigan as the votes were being counted. As the president was speaking to supporters, CNN reports the president said, ""The Republican Party has never been so affronted but they have never been so united as they are right now."
