Prep Work Starts for JC Apartment Complex
For the first time in decades, the lights are on in a pair of abandoned Endicott Johnson buildings in Johnson City.
The old shoe factory structures off Baldwin Street are to be transformed into 104 apartments, along with a restaurant, as part of a $29 million redevelopment project.
Larry Regan of Regan Development Corporation in Westchester County said crews now are doing some preliminary work to secure the buildings.
On Thursday afternoon, Regan said his company took title to the site in December. He said he expects to close on bond financing for the project in about six weeks.
The developer said actual construction in the two former EJ buildings should get underway in early March.
Regan said the building permits for the project have been secured. He said workers are "cleaning everything up" and getting the site ready for the project.
The apartment complex is being developed a short distance south of the Binghamton University pharmacy school which is now under construction.
