Johnson City police and other law enforcement agencies were searching the village for a suspect following an armed robbery of a bank near Wilson Medical Center.

The heist at the NBT Bank branch at 331 Main Street happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Preliminary reports indicated a man whose face was said to have been covered by a mask displayed a black handgun.

There apparently were no injuries in the incident. It was not known what may have been taken.

Johnson City police officers and Broome County sheriff's deputies were at the bank branch shortly after the report was received.

A sheriff's office canine unit searched the area near the bank for a short time.

The NBT branch is located in a 102-year-old building that once was the home of Charles F. Johnson Jr. The bank renovated the historic house and opened the office at the site in 2008.
