Police Make First Arrest Under Binghamton’s Social Host Law
A Binghamton woman has been cited under the city's new "Social Host" ordinance after police broke up a big underage drinking party.
Authorities say 29-year-old Bianca Rigaud of Dickinson Street was the first person to be arrested under the new law that was enacted to crack down on large gatherings during the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the mayor's office, officers determined Rigaud was one of the people in charge of a loud party at 140 Front Street.
Police were called to the large three-story apartment building late Friday night. About 100 people were said to be at the party. Officers saw several partygoers holding alcoholic beverages. They also "smelled a strong odor of marijuana."
A 20-year-old Binghamton woman was cited for an open container violation.
Officials say detectives are investigating the party and more arrests are possible.
