Broome County sheriff's investigators "got lucky" when a suspect in an armed robbery at a Mirabito store in Kirkwood left his phone at the scene.

Authorities say 19-year-old Jamar Gilmore of Endicott has been charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree menacing in connection with the June 2 incident.

Detective Sergeant John Harder said Gilmore was taken into custody on Riverside Drive in Westover.

During the robbery, a man pointed a gun at a clerk at the Mirabito store on Upper Court Street and demanded money.

Harder said the cash and the weapon used in the heist have not been recovered. He said surveillance video played a key role in the investigation, along with the fact that Gilmore left his phone in the store. Harder said: "We got lucky."

Gilmore was being held at Broome County Jail.
