Pilot Dies in Delaware County Plane Crash
A western New York man was killed when a twin-engine plane crashed near the Cannonsville Reservoir.
Authorities say 65-year-old Daniel Drew of Buffalo died after the 1975 Cessna went down in the town of Tompkins, about 40 miles east of Binghamton.
According to the Buffalo News, Drew was an experienced pilot who was flying from Niagara Falls to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey. He was heading there for his job with a charter company.
The plane crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. Friday. A person who was in the area called 911 to report hearing an explosion shortly after seeing a low-flying plane.
The wrecked aircraft was found in a wooded area at the bottom of a 600-foot drop.
Snow and sleet were falling in the area at the time of the crash.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board examined the site of the crash over the weekend.
