PA Readies for Return to Sports Competition

Pa. Governor Tom Wolf has issued a set of guidelines for high school and recreational sports around the state to continue on a path to resume training and competition.  Guidance includes public schools, college and professional sports.

In a press release found at: www.governor.pa.gov Governor Wolf says "Pennsylvania has some of the best athletes and teams in the country and they can now begin to safely return to organized sports.  This is another step toward reopening our state and getting things back on track".

Under the guidelines released Thursday public and private  K-12 schools under the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (PISAA) can resume voluntary sports-related workouts if they are in the yellow or green zones of recovery.  Before that is allowed schools have to develop an athletic health and safety plan that is approved by the local board of governors and posted on the school's website.

College sports that are sanctioned by the NCAA including intramural and club sports can resume in-person activity after developing an athletic health and safety plan under the guidance and guidelines of the PDE's Postsecondary Education Institutions and Adult Education Programs guidance.

Professional sports can resume immediately.  According to www.governor.pa.gov  teams or leagues in the yellow phase of recovery or if more than 250 people are on site in the green phase must have a COVID-19 safety plan approved by the Department of Health.
