New York State Comptroller’s office says the Village of Oxford's Court System needs to work on its accounting.

An audit cited the court for not properly accounting for money from tickets, collections and deposits.

There was also recorded a shortage of $3,5000 in one account in the court system.

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office said over $1,300 in collections were recorded, but auditors could not locate paperwork showing the money had been deposited.

The report reads, “Due to the Court’s lack of documentation and poor records, it’s not clear whether the deficiencies we found are simple errors or intentional actions to cover money stolen from the Court.”

Village officials have said they are enacting the recommended changes in Court accounting practices.
