The village of Owego is prepared for the thousands of people expected to attend the annual Strawberry Festival.

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]The celebration will get underway with a block party June 19. The festival beauty pageant is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Courthouse Square.

A 5K run and walk event is to start on Academy Street at 7 p.m. A one-mile run for children between the ages of five and ten will begin an hour earlier.

Bands will perform at Ahwaga Park and on the courthouse lawn throughout the evening.

Fireworks are to be  launched over the Susquehanna River near Draper Park at 10 p.m.

Saturday's activities will include the festival parade starting at 10 a.m. More than 200 vendors will sell food, crafts and other items throughout the day.

Many streets in Owego's business district will be closed Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday.

Festival parking will be available Saturday at Hickories Park and at the Tioga County Fairgrounds. A shuttle service is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This will be the 35th year the Owego Strawberry Festival has been held.
