Owego Apalachin Voters Finalize Budget
The Owego Apalachin School District has less money than it originally wanted for programs and operational costs next year, but it will not be forced to go to a hold-the-line contingency budget.
Residents June 18 approved a revised proposed budget in a vote of 1,281 - 786 which increases the tax levy by 2.8%
.
Voters rejected the original budget proposal that carried with it a tax levy increase of 3.8%. District officials said both the original and revised budgets carried a tax increase within New York State’s mandated tax increase cap.
The second budget cut spending by about $170,000 from the original. A contingency budget would have kept spending at the levels under the current budget and not allowed for extraneous expenditures like extra-curricular activities.
