Over-the-Air TV Viewers May Have to Re-Scan to Keep Channels
If you get some of your network television channels off an antenna, you may have to do a re-set of your set August 1.
Viewers have been seeing advisories on their screens telling them of the August 1 change to other frequencies for some channels.
Follow the directions for your television to re-scan your set. In most cases you will use your remote to "channel scan" or "auto-search" in the setup menu.
There is help available at www.fcc.gov/TVrescan or call the helpline at 888-225-5322 and push 6 to speak to a representative.
While a change in the normal routine may be a short inconvenience, industry-watchers say the upside is that some markets may end up with additional signals being picked up.
The change is being made to free up frequencies for 5G mobile upgrades.
