Over 1,000 Tickets Written in NY for Operation Hardhat
The recent traffic initiative that put New York State Troopers in fluorescent vests alongside Department of Transportation Workers is being touted as a success.
Governor Andrew Cuomo says State Police issued 1,779 tickets during Operation Hardhat where authorities crack down on work zone violations.
The initiative ran from July through November.
The majority of the tickets were written for speeding through work zones with 618 citations, followed by using cell phones and violations of the seat belt law. Number four on the list of specific violations was failure to move over for vehicles in a work zone.
In addition to writing tickets for violators, the initiative is intended to educate drivers about the dangers in work zones and the importance of safe driving, including moving over a lane for workers and emergency crews along roadways.
