Workers have been busy for several days getting things ready for the Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally at Otsiningo Park.

Event coordinator Dave Passagno said site preparation at the Broome County park in the town of Dickinson began on Monday of last week.

Although site work is continuing, the park will remain open for walkers and other visitors until Wednesday.

People in the park should be aware of ongoing preparations as equipment is moved into position.

The Spiedie Fest wasn't held last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The event was delayed until fall this year as planners were delayed by changing coronovirus health guidelines.

Passagno said this is a "challenging time of year to get volunteers," noting many of those who assist at the event do so in the summer when they may not have to work.

The Spiedie Fest will get underway at noon Friday. The event will continue on Saturday and Sunday.
