Tioga County Sheriff’s Officials say an Operation Life Saver tracker, that alerts authorities when an at-risk person goes missing, helped find a child early February 2.

Deputies responded to a report with a child with special needs missing from a home in Apalachin at 12:19 a.m.

Tioga and Broome County Sheriff’s officials and Vestal Police all used equipment from each department to locate the radio signal from Operation Life Saver and were able to find the child in a wooded area in the Town of Vestal.

The child was treated for minor injuries.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Apalachin Fire Department and Vestal Emergency Medical Services.
