A section of Route 17 in eastern Broome County was closed following a crash involving a tractor-trailer that overturned.

The crash occurred near the Damascus exit in the town of Windsor shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday.

According to New York State Police, the driver of the truck was hurt. The 64-year-old man from the Bronx was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

Investigators said a utility pole with wires and about 200 feet of guide rail were damaged.

The truck is registered to Lae Transport Corporation of Newark, New Jersey.

The trailer unit of the rig plunged off the highway between two bridges over State Line Road.

The crash was attributed to unsafe speed and an unsafe lane change.

Both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of Route 17 were closed for a time after the crash.
