New York State Police officials say a trooper who was injured in a collision as he was reporting to work has died.

Authorities say Trooper Jeremy VanNostrand was taken to Albany Medical Center after the crash in front of the State Police barracks on Route 5S in Fonda.

Investigators say VanNostrand was stopped in traffic in his personal vehicle waiting to turn into the station's driveway around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. His vehicle was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic.

VanNostrand was 36 years old. He became a New York State trooper in December 2012. He served in Troop F at Middletown and Liberty. He later moved to Troop G with assignments at Granville and Fonda.

Before VanNostrand joined the State Police, he served as a New York State correction officer for eight years.

VanNostrand is survived by his wife, their daughter, his parents, sister and brothers.
