New York State Senator Fred Akshar II (R Colesville) has just completed his first regular session representing the 52 District.

Speaking on the July 30 edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Akshar reflects on his experiences in Albany.

The first-time politician says the whole experience has been "a learning curve" and he has had to absorb information on a wide variety of issues, whereas, as a former Broome County Sheriff Captain and Undersheriff, his main expertise had been with opioid abuse and other crime.

The Senator has recently announced his bid for a full term and talks about his plans and ideas if he is reelected.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
