Calphine Energy is looking to develop sites in the Towns of Sanford and Windsor, putting 27 wind turbines in the rural communities.

The Bluestone project will be the point of the Public Service Commission Siting Board hearing starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Windsor High School.

Residents in the region have been sharply divided over the project with supporters touting clean energy and jobs while opponents have objected to environmental and aesthetic impact of the close to 670-foot tall towers and blades.

In July, the Town of Sanford put a 3-month moratorium on approval of zoning for the project

Calphine is expected to file its permit applications by September 18.

PSC  has indicated it will make a decision on the future of the project by the end of the year following a lengthy review of all the permit application paperwork and comments from residents, businesses and others impacted by the proposal.

Comments are also being accepted by the PSC online and by calling the opinion line at 1-800-335-2120, referencing case 19E-0121 Bluestone Wind Project.  Those comments will be summarized and submitted to PSC officials.

The case file for the PSC can be found at dps.ny.gov with a search for 19-E-0121.

Comments should be submitted by November 15.
