“Nuisance Flooding” Possible for Twin Tiers

The National Weather Service in Binghamton is keeping a close watch on a slow moving storm system that is preparing to dump rain on the Twin Tiers in the next couple days.

In a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement from the weather service, NOAA says the probability for widespread hazardous weather is low, but rain that could be heavy at times, is expected across the region overnight April 6 into Thursday night.

Officials say the rain could cause what they called “nuisance flooding” in flood prone areas and around smaller rivers and tributaries.

Rainfall totals of between a half and three-quarters of an inch were being projected for the Greater Binghamton area on Thursday.

The Weather Service reminds residents to check back frequently for updates as the storm system approaches and rainfall totals become more evident.
