Graffiti continues to spread along Clinton Street in Binghamton's First Ward and police have been unable to charge the culprits.

Mayor Richard David said there's been "a rash of graffiti" recently and "police are on the lookout" in areas that "are prone to it."

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Tuesday, David said he was not aware of any arrests in connection with the latest wave of vandalism.

One message on an abandoned building says: "Cops out of the 1st Ward."

The mayor said the increase in messages directed against law enforcement is not surprising "considering some of the local groups that try to promote this anti-police rhetoric."

David said he believes "that kind of fuels some young adults in their desire to just tag and spread these messages."

The mayor is urging people who witness acts of vandalism to contact police because residents are "the eyes and ears of what happens in the community."
