A restaurant that's been a fixture on Endicott's Washington Avenue for nearly two decades has gone out of business.

Nirchi's on the Avenue served its final meal Saturday evening. The restaurant at the south end of Washington Avenue near Union-Endicott High School offered a fine dining menu.

The owners had been considering closing the restaurant for the past year.

Eleven months ago, the Nirchi's family was in the news when its original pizza shop on the North Side of Endicott closed.

Although that small pizzeria on Pine Street never reopened, other Nirchi's Pizza locations around Broome County remain in operation.

The future is uncertain for the restaurant property at 215 Washington Avenue. The site now is on the market.

The restaurant closing occurred just weeks before demolition is to start on the old Endicott Inn on the other side of Washington Avenue.
