Motorists on Route 17 in Tioga County who will be traveling at night may be facing the challenge of an unfamiliar route in the dark as work is done on a bridge approach between Lounsberry (exit 63) and Nichols (exit 62).

Beginning nightly, through October 9, westbound traffic will be detoured onto State Route 282 (River Road) between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.  Traffic will be returned to the highway at Exit 62.

Starting October 11 through next October 15, Eastbound traffic will be detoured, returning to Route 17 at Exit 63.

The New York State Department of transportation says the bridge approach slab work is requiring the complete closure of those sections of Route 17.

Up-to-date travel information can be found by calling 511 or at 511NY.
