A snowmobile operator was injured after the vehicle struck a fence as he tried to access a trail in northern Broome County.

The crash happened on Route 11 near Keibel Road in Whitney Point around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

A 31-year-old Newark Valley man was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City with an apparent back injury.

A Broome County sheriff's deputy said the snowmobile driver said he had left a gas station just before the crash. The man reportedly was thrown from the vehicle when a ski struck part of a fence as he prepared to return to a trail.

No tickets were issued in connection with the crash.
