According to a report by Kathy Reakes of Daily Voice, Crystal Thomas of Highland, New York was arrested on October 4th and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She allegedly allowed her 10-year-old son to get a permanent ink tattoo on his forearm.

New York state law prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from getting a tattoo, regardless of whether a parent consents.

According to another report by Neiran Gray Desai of Daily Mail, Thomas and her children were staying in a motel when the boy learned a neighbor could give him the tattoo. Thomas allowed her son to go to the room and was not present when the tattoo was performed. The boy got his name spelled out in block letters across roughly seven inches of his forearm.

The boy asked a school nurse to apply Vaseline to the tattoo, which the nurse reported to the school resource officer. The Lloyd Police Department was contacted and Thomas was arrested. According to the report, authorities are still searching for the man who performed that tattoo, who is no longer staying at the motel.

The 10-year-old and his older sibling were taken by child protective services following the incident. Thomas was released by the Town of Lloyd Court with an appearance ticket and is due to return on October 20th.
