A North Western, New York man is being held in connection with the shooting deaths of his wife and a New York State Trooper.

State Police Superintendent George Beach II says he is saddened to announce the death of 36 year old Trooper Joel Davis.

Davis was responding to a report of shots fired at 8:09 p.m. July 9 during a domestic dispute on County Route 46 in the Town of Theresa in Jefferson County.  While approaching the house, the Trooper was shot once and killed.

32 year old Justin Walters surrendered without incident.

State Police say Walters is an active duty Army infantryman stationed at Fort Drum.

Walters' wife, 27 year old Nichole Walters was also found dead at the property.

Trooper Davis of Evans Mills leaves behind a wife and three children.

The investigation continues.
