Michael Battaglino, long-time area youth baseball coach, was honored by friends and family Friday at Bud Sheehan Field at Recreation Park on Binghamton's West Side.  Battaglino coached a number of youth teams over several decades including Babe Ruth Baseball at Sheehan Field.

A $19,000 scoreboard was unveiled in left-centerfield in memory of the former coach.  Funds were raised by a number of friends and coaches who spent many days and nights working with Battaglino on Sheehan Field and many others around the area.  During the afternoon ceremony many spoke of the love for his family and his dedication to the youth in our area.

Battaglino passed away in March of 2012 at the age of 85.  He worked as the Assistant Commissioner of Labor in New York State for 46 years.

Along with coaching, Battaglino was a member of a number of charitable projects and groups including the Broome Sports Foundation. He was a long-time Binghamton hockey fan as well.
