A New Jersey man is accused of trying to outrun New York State Police in Tioga County.

Troopers say they tried to stop 20 year old Christopher Roberson of Browns Mills for driving 82 miles an hour on Route 17 in the Town of Owego at 3:25 p.m. September 16 but the car sped off, taking exit 65 and sliding off Route 434 before hitting a utility pole.

Roberson was not hurt but his front seat passenger suffered a cut to her face.

Authorities say a search of the car turned up about two grams of marijuana

Roberson is charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer, unlawful possession of marijuana and a number of traffic violations.

He was sent to the Tioga County Jail on $5,000 bail.
