NCAA Fumbles One-Time Transfer Waiver

According to word from the NCAA Division I Board of Directors potential changes to the transfer waiver process may have to wait.  In information compiled by ESPN.com's Jeff Borzello the Transfer Waiver Working Group recommended waiver guidelines change to allow the one-time waiver but disagreed on the waiver process.

Later this month the Division I Council will likely vote on a one-time waiver that would allow college student-athletes to transfer from one school and enroll in another without having to sit out one year before being able to compete at his or her new school.  Should the proposal pass the Division I Council would have to decide on when the waiver would take effect.

Concern over the COVID-19 pandemic could delay any waiver proposal change.  In the NCAA statement "Board members recommended the waiver process be sensitive to student-athlete well-being, especially those impacted by COVID-19 in the interim period."

If passed the waiver could enable schools to stock up and replenish lineups in very quick fashion. The waiver  would apply to football, men's and women's basketball, baseball and men's ice hockey.
