A motorcycle accident has claimed the life of a 30 year-old Chenango Bridge resident. The Broome County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Eric Mettler. According to the report at approximately 1:46 AM Sunday deputies responded to a call of a motorcycle accident near 236 Castle Creek Road in the Town of Chenango.  Upon arrival deputies were unable to locate the operator of the motorcycle.  Following a search of the area the operator was located in thick brush a short distance from the crash. He was deceased when officers located the body.

The Sheriff's Office reports the motorcycle was northbound on Castle Creek Road and failed to negotiate a sharp left-hand curve.  Mettler lost control of the motorcycle and struck a guiderail.  Mettler was ejected from the motorcycle on impact with the guiderail.  Unsafe speed was to be a significant factor in the accident.  No other injuries were reported.

Castle Creek Road had one lane shut down for about three hours due to the investigation.  The roadway was opened at 4:15 AM yesterday.
