Broome County Legislative Session Interrupted As Deputies Remove 20 People

In a release on Friday, July 17, 2026, from the Broome County Sheriff's Office, two persons from Binghamton were facing multiple charges following a disturbance.

The incident occurred at the Broome County Office Building in Binghamton during a legislative session in the Broome County Chambers on July 16, 2026.

According to the report, around 5 p.m., several individuals proceeded to continuously
interrupt the legislative session by yelling, screaming, and using foul language, resulting in several persons being escorted out of the chambers and the Broome County Office Building.

41-year-old Salka Valerio from Binghamton was alleged to have refused to exit her seat and resisted arrest while Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to place her under arrest for Obstructing Government Administration.

Other individuals were removed from the meeting as they allegedly attempted, unsuccessfully, to prevent Deputies and Security Officers from removing Valerio.

She was eventually transported to the Sheriff’s Office and charged with Disorderly Conduct, a Violation, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Resisting Arrest, a Class A Misdemeanor.
Valerio was released on an appearance ticket.

59-year-old Brian Mcpeek of Binghamton was also taken into custody by officers from the  Broome County Security Division after causing a disturbance during the session and refusing to exit the chambers.

He was transported to the Sheriff’s Office, where he was charged with Disorderly Conduct, a violation, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor. Mcpeek was also released on an appearance ticket.

Broome County Security Division and Broome County Sheriff’s Office members removed approximately twenty disruptive individuals.

The vast majority of our community members and leaders are working hard and working together every day to help solve the very real problems our communities face to help keep our families safe.  Unfortunately, a small number of individuals chose to spend their time disrupting, threatening, and shouting down those doing the work rather than engaging in meaningful dialogue.
