Four more teachers in the Vestal School District have been designated as "Master Teachers."

The additional Master Teachers were among 237 educators who received the designation last month.

The newest Master Teachers in the district are science instructors at Vestal High School. They are Danette Berry, Stephanie Lewis, Tracy Suggs and Rosanne Van Wie.

Three other Vestal School District teachers received the special designation last year.

The Master Teacher Program was launched in New York in 2013. The initiative seeks to reward the state's highest performing teachers.

Under the program, secondary science and math teachers who make a commitment to mentor other teachers receive an annual stipend of $15,000 over a four-year period.

Local Master Teachers work with Binghamton University to help engage in the latest developments in their field.
