More Changes Coming to Oakdale Commons This Year
Visitors to the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City can expect to see additional construction work as the transformation of the property moves forward.
A significant portion of what had been the old Oakdale Mall already has been redeveloped with new tenants like Dick's House of Sport, BJ's Wholesale Club and Beer Tree Brew.
Marc Newman, a partner in Spark JC, said construction work is underway to turn the former Burlington store into an ambulatory surgical center that will be operated by Guthrie.
Newman said more infrastructure work is being done on the west side of the property to address drainage issues. A new piping system should be completed within the next couple of months.
Planning continues for the development of a 125-unit residential structure on the north side of the property.
A new traffic signal will be installed at the north end of the Oakdale Commons near the apartment building, which should be ready for occupancy in 2027.
Newman estimates between 40,000 to 50,000 square feet of space remains available for lease of the nearly 1 million square feet of the old mall.
A new tenant has been secured to take up about 23,000-square-feet on the west side of the complex. Newman wouldn't name the tenant but said the project "would have a retail component to it." He anticipates an announcement will be made in a few months.
A Five Guys restaurant is scheduled to open its Oakdale Commons restaurant this Friday morning. A new Five Below discount store is expected to start operating in the fall.
