What to Expect in MLB Post-Trade Deadline
This content was produced in partnership with Gambler Labs.
The MLB trade deadline has come and gone, now we hit the dog days of summer with teams' rosters pretty much locked.
So who has the best odds to win this year's World Series?
According to NJ.bet, a sportsbook and casino comparison site, the LA Dodgers of the National League would have the best odds at +330, followed by the New York Yankees of the American League at +500.
- Dodgers +350
- Yankees +500
- Phillies + 550
- Orioles +800
- Braves +1000
- Guardians +1100
- Twins + 1500
- Astros +1600
- Brewers +2000
- Mariners +2500
- Padres +3000
- Royals +3500
- Diamondbacks +3500
- Mets +5000
- Red Sox +6500
- Cardinals +8000
- Rangers +13000
The field is wide open with a lot of interesting teams, offering plenty of value. While the Dodgers and Yankees are at the top of the pack, they are far from locks to win the World Series. LA, the Yankees, the Phillies, and the Braves all had losing records in the month of July and are vulnerable in the playoffs.
Philadelphia made the World Series as the No. 6 seed in 2022 and Arizona made it last year from that same position, making San Diego and Arizona both attractive plays in the National League, with plenty of value. Both teams added key left-handed arms to their bullpen at the trade deadline, improving their chances with those key acquisitions.
On the American League side, the two AL East teams, New York and Baltimore are the favorites to win the World Series, but the best value could be taking Cleveland at +1100 or Seattle at +2500, both teams have excellent pitching, with the Guardians having the best bullpen in the majors, which is key come playoff time.
Baltimore has a tremendous offense but lacks the starting pitching and bullpen to make a deep playoff run. The Yankees have an inconsistent rotation and the Twins rank near the bottom half of the league in pitching, making Cleveland an attractive play with great value.
In the NL field, behind the Dodgers and Phillies, there is a ton of value plays. We mentioned San Diego and Arizona, but take a look at Pittsburgh at +20000. The Pirates aren't currently in the playoff field but added Bryan De La Cruz at the deadline and have tremendous pitching led by Cy Young candidate Paul Skenes. If the Pirates can get in, with their pitching they can make some noise.
Last year's champion, the Texas Rangers look like a long shot to make the field this season, but the NL Champion Diamondbacks could make a return trip to the playoffs.
If you like a favorite in the National League, Philadelphia has the best-starting pitching. If you like a longshot, Arizona is starting to come together and made some nice additions at the deadline. If you want a deeper long shot, take the Pirates and hope they get into the playoff field.
On the American League side, if you want to bet a favorite, take Baltimore. If you want a long shot, go with Cleveland. If you are looking for a deeper longshot, take Kansas City at +3500.
