Mike Korchak Still in Broome D.A. Race But on a Different Ticket
The candidate that was narrowly defeated in the Republican Primary for Broome County District Attorney is still in the race but as the Libertarian Party candidate.
Even before Michael Korchak made his announcement July 31 on the Broome County Courthouse steps, the head of the Republican Party, Bijoy Datta, blasted the Libertarian platform as being in favor of “legalizing prostitution and non-prosecution of drug crimes.” The winner of the primary, Paul Battisti, said he’s continuing to run on a promise of fighting the opioid epidemic, getting tough on criminals and supporting victims. Debra Gelson is the Democrat’s candidate.
Battisti defeated Korchak in the primary by less than 200 votes.
Korchak maintains he never had support of GOP leaders. He also says while accepting the Libertarian nod, he doesn’t necessarily support all the party’s stated beliefs.
The general election is November 5.
