The three-story Microtel Inn and Suites building at 400 Prospect Street opened on July 11.

General manager Christine Maddon said there are 17 people on the new hotel's staff.

The building was constructed on the site of a former school and two houses. The properties were acquired two years ago by a Scranton-area developer.

Madden said many people have been excited to be among the first guests to stay at the new hotel.

The Microtel site is located just east of the Route 17 Airport Road interchange. It's one block north of the Prospect Terrace fire station.

Madden said a grand opening event is to be held in August.
