Michele Harris Disappearance: State Police Plan More Searches
Nearly a quarter-century after a Tioga County woman vanished, New York State Police have announced plans to conduct additional searches for evidence in the case.
Michele Harris of Spencer was 35 years old when she was last seen on September 11, 2001.
State police have issued an update on their investigation on the 24th anniversary of her disappearance.
In a new statement, the agency said it remains "committed to find answers in this case."
Calvin Harris, Michele's estranged husband, was charged with murder in connection with her disappearance. He was tried four times. He was convicted twice but was ultimately acquitted in 2016.
According to the state police update, the woman's "whereabouts remain unknown."
State police investigators are planning more searches to try to locate additional evidence related to the disappearance.
The statement said the efforts "reflect our continued determination to locate Michele and provide a resolution for her family and the community."
The state police update noted that information called into a tip line set up for a private reward is not shared with its investigators. The agency said people with information about the disappearance of Michele Harris may contact state police directly by calling (607) 561-7400.
Bureau of Criminal Investigation Captain Lucas Anthony said:
We will not stop seeking justice for Michele Harris and her loved ones. Our investigators are reviewing all available leads and we continue to ask the public to share any information that may assist us.
Calvin Harris and his attorneys last May announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the discovery of Michele's remains.
According to a website detailing the reward offer, her four children "want to know what happened and want to recover her remains, so they can finally have a proper burial and service."
