A bad smell at the Cortland Motel ends up with the arrest of two men for allegedly cooking methamphetamine.

Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say they got a report at 9:17 p.m. September 21 about a chemical smell coming from one of the rooms at the motel on Route 11 in Town of Cortlandville and found an active meth lab.

39 year old Eric Brayton of Homer and 46 year old Kenneth Sasser, who lists his address at the motel, are charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful manufacturing methamphetamine as well as misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies say they evacuated the motel and relocated tenants until the scene could be cleared of hazardous materials.

Authorities say they found several ounces of meth oil, lab equipment, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine in Brayton and Sasser’s room.

It took authorities over four and a half hours to clean up the scene before the 9 people who had been staying at the motel were allowed back the next morning.
