Vestal Traffic Stop Turns Up Meth Hidden Under Child’s Car Seat
Two Binghamton residents were sent to Broome County Jail after police discovered four ounces of methamphetamine hidden under a child's car seat.
Authorities said the arrests followed a traffic stop on Bunn Hill Road near the Binghamton University campus in Vestal.
Investigators who pulled over the vehicle called for a Binghamton police canine unit to assist in searching the car.
The dog alerted police to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. Police found the meth tucked under a child car seat. That seat was being used by one of three kids in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
In addition to the drugs, investigators confiscated $1,242 in cash discovered in the vehicle.
The driver of the car - 25-year-old Lacey Brown - and a passenger - 25-year-old Jacob Brown - were arrested. They were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. They both also were charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
According to a news release from the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, Lacey and Jacob Brown were arraigned and ordered held at the jail in the town of Dickinson.
