A tranquil afternoon in Binghamton gave way to a wild scene with a couple of cars repeatedly ramming each other and a disturbance involving several people.

The trouble developed around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday near Bevier and State streets. A nearby resident said he was inside his home when he heard a "loud commotion."

The man went outside and discovered a half-dozen people engaged in a heated verbal dispute. He saw a red Honda Civic and a silver Lexus stopped on Bevier Street.

The witness said a man who had been a passenger in the Lexus got out of the vehicle and smashed the passenger side window of the Civic, injuring a woman inside the car.

After the window was broken, a man who had been driving the Civic was seen backing up and slamming into the front bumper of the Lexus twice.

Both vehicles sped off heading east on Bevier Street. They then turned around and the Lexus smashed into the driver's side door of the Civic.

The people who were in the two cars were involved in the heated dispute, along with two other women who were nearby.

The woman who was hurt was taken to a hospital for treatment of a head injury.

The Lexus left the scene. Binghamton police located the vehicle on Front Street, just off Bevier near the entrance to Otsiningo Park.

Officers interviewed a man who had been in the vehicle and then transported him to the police station.

The Lexus had North Carolina license plates and an expired New York state inspection sticker. It also had a New York City police department sticker where the registration sticker was supposed to be in the windshield.

Binghamton police could provide no details on their investigation or what charges had been filed.

The witness who spoke to WNBF News said "it was like something you'd see in a movie."
