Some private property will have to be taken to resolve dangerous conditions on an accident-prone road in the Town of Maine.

The New York State Department of Transportation is looking to improve safety at the intersection of Route 26, East Maine Road and Adams Road, which has been the scene of numerous serious accidents.

Te DOT says the plan involves a realignment alternative that would shift the intersection to the northeast and reduce the curve just south of the intersection. That would improvement the flow of the road and increase the sight distance.

Since some land may have to be taken for the project, personnel from the DOT’s Regional Right-of-Way Office will be at the meeting and will work with property owners as acquisition needs are finalized.

Construction is expected to start next spring and the major portion of the work is slated to be complete by the end of the year.  The landscaping and other finishing touches on the one-point-three million dollar project could be wrapped up during the spring and early summer of 2017.
