Maine-Endwell School District Now Using New Solar Energy Facility

The Maine-Endwell School District has plugged its new solar array into the grid and the system is generating electricity.

Construction on the 4.1 megawatt facility next to the Maine Memorial Elementary School on Route 26 started last July.

The $7.2 million project consisting of 6,240 solar panels was built on property the school district had purchased in 2007.

Superintendent Jason Van Fossen said the Maine-Endwell school board began considering possible solar energy options for the site several years ago.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Van Fossen said the district ultimately decided to work with Renovus Solar to develop the project.

The 15-acre solar facility was fully activated by NYSEG on March 23.
