80-Unit Housing Complex Opening Near Maine-Endwell High School
The first residents of a long-planned $30 million apartment project in the town of Union are expected to move in soon.
Most of the construction work on the four-story 80-unit building on Hooper Road in Endwell has been completed.
The complex is located just west of Maine-Endwell Senior High School. The project is being developed by CDS Housing of Webster.
The new building will be managed by The SEPP Group of Binghamton, which also oversees the neighboring Marian Apartments.
About $15 million in state funds were allocated for the new project. State officials said LGBTQ+ households will receive a "lease preference" for eight of the building's apartments.
Broome County contributed $400,000 in federal ARPA funds to support the housing project, which has been built by Christa Construction of Rochester.
The complex has 78 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom apartments. The building should be ready for occupancy in March.
Andrew Sewnauth, CDS Life Transitions CEO, did not respond to repeated messages from WNBF News before this story was published.
The project is smaller than the original complex proposed by CDS Housing six years ago. The company originally sought permission from the town of Union to construct a 115-unit building.
Some residents who live in a quiet neighborhood just west of the site circulated petitions against the project.
