More layoffs have been announced at Lockheed Martin's Tioga County facility in another cost-cutting move by the company.

Forty people who work in cafeteria and janitorial positions at the Owego complex have been told they'll lose their jobs next month.

Lockheed has decided to hire other companies to handle cafeteria and janitorial services at the site. The change is scheduled to take effect July 21.

In a statement, Lockheed indicated the outside contractors will be able to do the work at a lower cost compared to continuing to have company employees provide the services.

The statement noted other Lockheed Martin sites already have taken similar actions.

There's no word as to how many of the affected workers could be hired by the new contractors.
