Floral Avenue Park in Johnson City has been closed for several months but its gates are expected to be unlocked in the near future.

The park on the village's South Side was locked down in late September following a series of vandalism incidents.

Mayor Greg Deemie said play equipment had been defaced with graffiti and garbage had been tossed around the park. Vandals broke into the pool house and tossed items into the pool.

On Friday, Deemie said the village has received parts needed to repair a slide in the park. He expects that work will be completed in the next few days.

The mayor said if the repairs are finished, he plans to open the park next weekend.

Deemie had locked down Floral Avenue Park a few years ago because of ongoing problems.
