If you are an area sports fans you had about as big of a selection as you could ever ask for in one weekend this past weekend. The following is a list of events that I know about in the immediate Broome County area. Several high schools were participating in state playoffs but out of this area. Local events included:

AHL home games with the Binghamton Devils on Friday and Saturday. The Devils defeated Lehigh Valley on Friday and fell to Springfield on Saturday.

There were five quarterfinal high school football playoffs games...all at Dick Hoover Stadium in Vestal.  On Friday night Tioga won its Class D playoff while Union-Endicott lost in the Class A quarterfinal round.  Then on Saturday the playoffs continued with three games.  Susquehanna Valley topped Lowville in a high-scoring thriller to advance to the Class C semifinals.  Chenango Forks won their playoff against Solvay with to advance in Class B competition.  In the nightcap Section 4's Corning entry lost by two points to Section 3's Cicero-North Syracuse.

At the Events Center both the men's and women's basketball teams posted Saturday afternoon victories.  The women downed Niagara to move to 4-0 and the men earned their first win of the season over Sacred Heart.

The ABA's Binghamton Bulldogs were in action on Saturday evening and posted a 145-113 win over West Chester.  And at SUNY Broome there were two games played on Saturday and two more on Sunday. The women fell to North Country on Saturday and then topped Clinton on Sunday.  The men swept a pair of games with wins over North country and Clinton.

Whew !   All that in one weekend and all in Broome County!  A sports fan's delight and a great showcase for our community.
