Did You Visit These Local New York & PA Amusement Parks Of The Past?

Now that we are in the warm months of summer, I think back to the times when I was a kid and all the fun things my family and I did together.

My dad has a secret recipe that he used for his famous (well, famous in the area where we lived) bar-b-que chicken, I don't know what was in that marinade, but it was the best-tasting BBQ chicken I ever experienced.

Every summer, my family and several of my cousins, uncles, aunts, and grandparents would take a ride to Elmira for a picnic and then ride the rides at Eldridge Park. That was the highlight of my summer. That old wooden roller-coaster was my first experience on such a ride, and the haunted house was fun to ride through as well. I missed the opportunity to visit some of the other local parks, like Fraley's Park in Waverly, New York, and Airport Kiddieland in Binghamton.

Another amusement park I missed out visiting, was Skyline Park in Owego. I have heard a lot about this park and happened to find a video on YouTube from a family who visited the park in the summer of 1969. Do you remember this amusement park?

Another park, not far from the Binghamton area, was Ghost Town In The Glen, also known as Rocky Glen and New Rocky Glen in Moosic Pennsylvania, just outside of Scranton. That was a fun park to visit.

I remember seeing Harry Chapin perform in concert at this park one summer, and I believe he even sang the '30,000 Pounds of Bananas' song, which, of course, took place in Scranton several years earlier. Here's a YouTube video of the park from 1978.

Even the Ross Park Zoo on Morgan Road, Binghamton, had its own set of amusement rides back in the day. This video highlights the train and Ferris wheel.
