Increased sobriety and safety patrols are planned around the state.

As a number of organized events like parades in Syracuse and Utica have been called off for the weekend due to concern over the coronavirus, revelers may be looking to make their own celebrations.

Troopers will be setting up saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints through Wednesday, March 18.

State Police say during the effort last year, Troopers made 259 drunk driving arrests in the state, and issued 371 tickets for distracted driving.

In another safety reminder, authorities say: “Walking impaired can be just as dangerous as drunk driving. Designate a sober friend to walk you home.”
