Kopernik Campers Talked to Spacewoman on ISS
Some Southern Tier summer campers are getting a much loftier experience than painted pine cones from their break from school.
At 12:41 p.m. August 28, participants from the Kopernik Observatory & Science Center's summer camp will speak directly with International Space Station (ISS) astronaut, Dr. Serena Aunon-Chancellor using Amateur (Ham) Radio.
Students, family and friends gather at the Vestal observatory starting at noon for a presentation on what the campers did to prepare for the event along with a number of videos showing the training Dr. Aunon-Chancellor went through to prepare for her 6 month long mission as a specialist on the ISS.
Students will have about ten minutes once contact is made to directly ask Dr. Aunon-Chancellor questions about her life and work aboard the space station.
