Former U.S. Congresswoman Claudia Tenney continues to claim victory in the race for the 22nd District but the final winner in the contest between the Republican and Incumbent Democrat Anthony Brindisi won’t be decided until a State Judge rules next week on challenges to more than two-thousand absentee and affidavit ballots.

At the close of day November 30, Tenney’s campaign maintained the Republican is clinging to a 12-vote lead over Brindisi.

Tenney had the lead in the race by over 28,000 votes on election night but that lead was steadily eaten away by the count of the paper ballots over the past three weeks.

As with the national contests, including the Presidential race, Democrats were in a large majority of voters choosing to mail in their ballots this year.

All eight counties in the 22nd District, including Broome, have submitted their final canvass tallies but the contested votes still need a ruling by State Supreme Court Justice Scott DelConte.

Two years ago, Tenney lost her reelection bid to Brindisi by less than 4,500 votes.
